Hi DS.

I was born, raised, abused and diagnosed with DID/MPD in Indiana. I grew up on a farm, with the nearest neighbor being a half mile away. I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist who specialized in MPD/DID. Then I started seeing a therapist who also specialized in it. So, I was very fortunate to find those two people. For awhile I did see a different psychiatrist, who didn't believe in it. You had very good questions.

Take care.

Hi DS

It appears my childhood trauma occured in Oregon. I was later diagnosed DID in Oregon, in my 20s, by a therapist who didn't know anything about it at the time...he somehow figured it out. Later, I was given the same diagnosis by 3 independent therapists on the east coast, in Washington DC, and New York.

Hi DS.

I was born and raised in Ohio, in a very rural, isolated part of the state. We didn't have many close neighbors, friends or relatives to check on us or to know that "bad things" were happening. & we were poor. My dad was alcoholic. My mom really didn't have much outside support back in those days (1940s, 1950s.) There were no domestic violence shelters then. And while her parents didn't like my dad, they wouldn't have encouraged a divorce, either. That's just the way it was.

Crummy, but true.
