NEWS AND INFORMATION FOR PEOPLE IN RECOVERY!

RECENT NEWS:

MV POSTED ITS PROJECTED 2012 BUDGET info and other notes from our recent Board Meeting on our ABOUT US page. We urge you to check it out, to see the beginnings of what we are trying to do to make our operations more transparent and useful for readers who are interested in participating on any level - from volunteers & contributors of writing and artwork, to potential collaborators, foundations, advertisers, and of course, individual donors.

We expect to update this page regularly, as events unfold and more info you may want to see becomes available. So please check back with us or tell me what info would be most helpful to you or your organization

We have NOT achieved the financial goals set forth in that budget (in fact, we're behind last year's revenue). But this budget shows where we want to be and I do believe it is possible--especially if I stay active and get more help from some of you who know more about doing this not-for-profit funding than I do.

I deeply apologize for the bollixed 'design' of that webpage - I am NOT a web designer by trade (not by a long shot) and while I can do basic updating, that's about it. Plus, newer versions of Dreamweaver are differerent from what I started out with (I have no clue about CSS, for example). I remade this page FOUR times the other day, typing the content into the tables over and over again. I could move the budget table to the left, center, or right of the column, but try as I might, I could not get the blasted budget table to move to the top of the page! It is probably a very simple procedure, but I just don't know how. It was late, I was tired, & I wanted you folks to see this information! So I posted it in crappy condition -- knowing it was a mess, but hoping that someone who is far-more-knowledgeable about this than I am would be willing to pitch in on some of these web updates!

MV has some volunteers who are capable of repairing this page, but I hate to keep bothering the same people over and over with Many Voices' work. We need some fresh, talented people who are willing to help. I'd like to have a cadre of volunteers we can call on, so if person A is busy, person B could do the job. If you or someone you know fits the 'talented web designer' category and might want to discuss volunteering, please email me or call me on my cell at 513-477-1136. Since I've been ill, I'm often not readily available through the office phone #. Please use the cell only for matters of importance, tho. I simply can't keep up with all MV readers calling on my cell for assorted questions. Those you can send to my email and I will get back with you as soon as possible.

MANY VOICES participated in Time Warner Cable's "Disability Volunteer Festival" on September 13, 2012, with about 10 other non-profit agencies. Some non-profits were big (like Goodwill). Others were small (like MV). But it was a wonderful experience and a chance for a real amateur (Lynn W.) to "practice" talking to new people, explaining our mission at MV, requesting local volunteers, and handing out sample issues. About 84 disabled or volunteer-ready employees of Time Warner attended, and I think every one of them picked up our mission statement and one or more sample copies of the print newsletter. I also had the chance to talk with other agencies about possible future collaborations and referrals. So it was definitely worth the time it took to get materials ready. Now I'm prepared with info, handouts, signup sheets and the guts it takes to talk to total strangers! Win-win-win!

One agency represented is called "Modern Veterans of America" -- founded by Buck Clay who had trouble negotiating the VA after his return from service with traumatic brain injury. His service is poised to help veterans find the resources that will help them...MV is a logical option. His personal plan is to train to be an RN, then get his Masters' and become a PA. He says it's difficult for "real vets" to communicate with VA medical staff who have never been in the US Armed Forces. We're likely to be working with this young man and his organization. Of the 2 million United States Service members that have been in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, it’s estimated that up to 50 percent experience combat-related issues ranging from substance abuse to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

MANY VOICES STILL SEEKS VOLUNTEER HELP! Our most critical need right now is a well-organized volunteer with a few hours to help Lynn on Wednesday Afternoons from 1-5 PM. Bright Grad Students, or bored Retirees with a bit of Obsessive-Compulsive behavior can help organize the clutter build-up as we reassign file cabinets in MV World Headquarters. Close to University of Cincinnati, and major Hospitals such as Cincinnati Children's, University Hospital, Shriner's Hospital, Christ Hospital and Good Samaritan.

MV is TINY so if you want a highly-social setting this is not for you. (Maximum of 3 or 4 people will be present.) But if you like to organize, are a self-starter, and want to learn more about trauma-recovery and/or non-profit management, this is the place to be. Casual clothing. Plenty of free parking. Bring your brain and knowledge of office organizing/filing etc.  Email Lynn at LynnW@manyvoicespress.org.
